How to Adjust the Hardness of PU Binder?

1. NCO (Isocyanate) Content

Higher NCO content → Harder material (more cross-linking, denser structure).
Lower NCO content → Softer material (longer polymer chains, more flexible).
Note: Too low NCO may reduce bond strength, so balance is key.

2. Polyol Selection & Molecular Weight
High-molecular-weight polyols → Softer, more elastic PU.
Low-molecular-weight polyols → Harder, more rigid PU.

3. Curing Conditions
Higher temperature curing → Faster reaction, harder result.
Lower temperature curing → Slower reaction, softer result.
4. Plasticizers (For Softening)
Adding plasticizers increases flexibility but may reduce bond strength if overused.

Takeaway:Softer PU = Lower NCO, higher polyol MW, plasticizers.
Harder PU = Higher NCO, lower polyol MW, controlled curing.
